An Evening of Song and Chamber Music
Beethoven’s contributions to the genre of lieder are showcased in an evening of song that includes works both contemporary to Beethoven as well as to today. The first half centers around love songs about the characters Daphnis and Chloë, and includes selections by Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn, including Beethoven’s famous Der Kuß, where Daphnis steals a kiss from Chloë. Elisabeth Greene’s response to these works, from Chloë’s perspective, was commissioned by the festival, and will be heard alongside their classical-era inspirations. The second half includes “Bei Männern Welche Liebe” from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, as well as Beethoven’s variations for cello and piano on the same melody. Please join us for a wonderful, varied evening of works for voice, cello, and piano!
